Last week, the European Council approved the Net-Zero Industry Act, which aims to ramp up Europe’s CleanTech manufacturing capacity, simplify regulatory requirements and boost investment.
Amongst a framework of measures, the Act aims to accelerate the growth of Europe’s CleanTech industry so that at least 40% of the annual deployment needs for net-zero technologies is manufactured within the EU by 2030.
Proposed under the aegis of Green Deal Industrial Plan, the Net-Zero Industry Act is designed to bolster Europe’s role in the evolution of a global net-zero industry and strengthen its sustainable energy sector to provide reassurance and resilience.
Boosting Sustainable Energy and CleanTech Innovation in Europe
As the energy crisis shows, a heavy reliance on energy imports can put companies and consumers at risk of market fluctuations, rising costs and limited supplies. By strengthening the EU’s CleanTech market and increasing production of CleanTech solutions within the bloc, the Net-Zero Industry Act will seek to safeguard the sector and the supply of sustainable energy.
The energy transition is well underway, and this latest initiative is a welcome step towards achieving key 2030 and 2050 targets. With a renewed focus on CleanTech manufacturing in Europe, companies throughout the EU will find it easier to access CleanTech solutions to decarbonize their operations.
